FIREFLIES
The mating ritual of the Synchronous fireflies is an unbelievably awesome scientific phenomenon that only occurs in a few places on the entire earth, and, here in the Great Smoky National Park, is one of those places.  Each year for approximately two weeks near mid-June this dazzling light show put on by one of Mother Nature’s smallest creatures can be viewed nightly near Elkmont.  If you are one of the lucky ones to be in the area at this time, you should definitely plan to take in this magical sight.  If not, go ahead and read all about these fabulous little bugs and plan next year’s visit to coincide with their magical mountainside light display.
